Thanks for the information! I'm kind of surprised that anybody can call themselves "Esquire" if they want, but I guess there's no way to really regulate it.

I am a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles. I cannot use my letterhead for any personal reason whatsoever, nor am I allowed to practice law for anyone but myself as any in pro per. It is a misdemeanor for me to insinuate in any way that I am an attorney at law while I am a Deputy District Attorney. If I am in a dispute with a company and need to let them know that I am a practicing attorney, I can only use Esquire to do so. That is not wrong.

"Esquire" is a worthless title. Mind as well let everyone with a degree adopt a special title simply because they have a degree (which almost seems to be the case anyway nowadays). The title of "Esquire" should be reserved only to illict laughter at an introduction, and should be preferably followed by a handle-rolling jesture and bow.
